Marie’s introduction to salsa was through attending latin jazz concerts in Olympia, Washington in 1990, which sparked an interest in studying conga. After seven years of study, she co-founded an all-woman Latin Jazz septet, entertaining at private and community events for five years. Occasionally, a salsa couple would come to the show, inspiring her to take dance lessons at Seattle’s Century Ballroom.
In 2003, Marie opened a salsa dance and music company, where she brought education and performance to private and public events, community workshops, dance studios, high schools, and colleges.
Marie also taught at an Albert Torres Salsa Congress, and trained with Billy Corado, a World Salsa Champion and resident of Dancing with the Stars in San Jose, Costa Rica.
Marie is now in Santa Fe, New Mexico, bringing her style of salsa-on-one, blended with influences of latin percussion and the dance forms she has explored over the years: ballet, broadway, tap, latin tap, jazz, samba, and rueda – into a fun, clave-driven style that supports the students to learn the foundations and find their own expression, enjoying a style that is uniquely their own.
